Applying for an ITIN
If you don’t have a Social Security number but work in the U.S., you’ll need to get an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN). It’s your go-to number for banking, starting a business, and filing taxes.
Filing your taxes is not just a legal requirement; it’s also super important for showing immigration that you can yourself. To get an ITIN, you’ll need to send in a tax return with Form W-7 and legal documents, usually your passport. You can either mail your original passport to the IRS and wait a few months to get it back or find a Certified Acceptance Agent (CAA) who can verify your passport you keep the original.
Here at BTST, we’ve got a CAA who can handle your taxes for the ITIN and sign the forms so you can hold onto your passport the whole time.
